MONSANTO AT IT AGAIN - NEW TECHNOLOGY TO MAKE CROPS MORE PEST RESISTANT

Monsanto
Monsanto says it has developed breakthrough technology to help make its crops more resistant to bugs and pests. The new techniques will help target insects that have developed resistance to previously genetically modified crops.

The research was conducted by scientists at Harvard University in conjunction with Monsanto. The aim was to try and speed up the process of generating proteins, which have properties that can kill pests.

The team was using PACE (phage-assisted continuous evolution) technology, which is able to eliminate insects that have grown resistant to prior agricultural solutions. The PACE method is 100 times faster than other methods in trying to identify protein with insect killing properties, according to the research team.

“Scientific breakthroughs like PACE technology are key to continue bringing solutions to farmers to help them get more out of every acre,” Tom Adams, vice president of biotechnology at Monsanto said in a press release.

“The remarkable progress that’s been made in applying PACE to agriculture biotechnology is a huge testament to the success that comes when parties work together and collaborate to advance science in a way that can bring long-term benefits to global agriculture.”

The importance of the technique means that the proteins are able to be developed at faster than the insects and pests are able to become resistant.

“It’s a breakthrough in a way we can handle resistance in the future,” Tom Malvar, the head of insect control discovery at Monsanto said, according to the Agriculture journal. “This technology is not limited to insect control. We envision this having broad applications,” he added.

In November, a report by Greenpeace slammed the genetically modified (GM) crop industry, for failing to tackle problems regarding superbugs caused by insects becoming resistant to previously genetically modified crops.

“GM crops can only increase yield by reducing losses to pests in years of high infestation, and this effect is not permanent as pesticide-producing crops lead to resistant ‘superbugs’. GM crop yields have often failed to isolate the effects of GM technology from other factors, or to compare like-for-like farms,” the report stated.

GM corn and soybeans have given smaller yields in recent years in the US due to pests and weeds becoming resistant to weedkillers used to protect the plants.

In March, the US Department of Agriculture announced its intention to end regulation of Monsanto’s GM corn that is engineered to resist the company’s herbicide, meaning that farmers will now be able to plant the corn strains without permits.

However, the move was slammed by critics, with the National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition, a nonprofit advocating pro-family farm policies, saying the unregulated process could lead to environmental damage.

“Without a coordinated and thorough evaluation of the full technology package, and a meaningful analysis of impacts, adding yet another new crop/herbicide package will continue adding to the existing harmful effects on herbicides on ecological systems, human health, and farmers’ livelihoods through herbicide drift and non-target crop losses; the widespread increase in herbicide-resistant weeds; and environmental and public health impacts,” the group said in a statement.

In November, protesters took to the streets in hundreds of cities around the world for the 2015 Million Mask March, which saw activists storm the doors of Monsanto in Washington, DC. In May, activists from over 400 cities spoke out against GMOs and Monsanto’s monopoly over the food supply.

Activists accuse the agricultural corporation of selling toxic chemicals, which are bad for people’s health, water supplies, vital crop pollinators and the environment in general. The giant is also criticized for its attitude towards food safety regulations and staunch opposition to GMO labeling. Small farmers blame Monsanto for monopolizing the seed market.

In January, Seattle announced its intention to sue Monsanto over allegations the company polluted the Lower Duwamish River and city drainage pipes, becoming the sixth city to file a lawsuit against the bio-tech giant.

“Long after the dangers of PCBs were widely known, Monsanto continued its practice of protecting its business interests at our expense,” City Attorney Pete Holmes said in a statement. “The City intends to hold Monsanto accountable for the damage its product wreaked on our environment.”

DONALD TRUMP'S FAVORITE BOOK IS…

GOP frontrunner Donald Trump appeared at the Iowa Faith and Family Coalition with his personal Bible in hand, a gift from his mother where she made special written notes to him, and a photo of his confirmation.

“Christians need support in our country (and around the world), their religious liberty is at stake! Obama has been horrible, I will be great.”

“I will protect… because we’re not being protected,” Trump said, referencing Christians and religious liberty.

He said his first priority if elected President of the United States would be to “preserve and protect our religious liberty.”

“We’ll be fighting as part [of a] common core, and we’re going to protect totally the First Amendment,” he vowed.

He was again questioned about religious liberty and what he can do to help protect Christians from having to violate their religious beliefs due to government regulations and laws.

“I feel so strongly in fact, it was mentioned in my second paragraph,” he said, referencing his speech. “Religious liberty is so important.”

“I’m a good fighter,” he vowed, “I win a lot,” suggesting he would win the war against Christianity.

“I want Christmas re-used,” Trump said of the campaign waged to remove the word “Christmas” from society in order to be more politically correct.

“Every year it gets worse and worse,” he said. “We have nobody fighting for us. I’m one of you — just remember that.”

Trumps 2nd favorite book is his book “Art of the Deal”.

I LOVE YOU DAD

While a man was polishing his new car, his 6 yr old son picked up a stone and scratched lines on the side of the car. In anger, the man took the child's hand and hit it many times; not realizing he was using a wrench. At the hospital, the child lost all his fingers due to multiple fractures. When the child saw his father with painful eyes, he asked, "Dad, when will my fingers grow back?" The man was so hurt and speechless; he went back to his car and kicked it a lot of times, devastated by his own actions. Sitting in front of that car he looked at the scratches. The child had written 'I LOVE YOU DAD'. The next day that man committed suicide. Anger and Love have no limits; choose the latter to have a beautiful, lovely life. Things are to be used and people are to be loved. But the problem in today's world is that people are used and things are loved. In this year, let's be careful to keep this thought in mind: "Things are to be used, but People are to be loved."

Watch your thoughts; they become words.
Watch your words; they become actions.
Watch your actions; they become habits.
Watch your habits they become character.
Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.

I'm glad a friend forwarded this to me as a reminder. God bless you. If you don't pass this on nothing bad will happen; if you do, you might change someones life.

Belgians To Get Iodine Pills ' In Case of Nuclear Accident

Iodine pills
NOTE: Iodine pills are not a protection against radiation. The "feel good measure" of offering iodine in potassium tablets simply causes the body to "fill its iodine tank with non-radioactive iodine," thus preventing the destruction and loss of the pancreas, a vital body organ.

All nuclear and atomic bombs and nuclear reactors produce large quantities of radioactive iodine. The human body demands iodine continuously unless it has sufficient iodine to fill the body's demand for the nutrient. The body does not distinguish radioactive from non-radioactive iodine and so will draw iodine from either source so long as the body needs iodine.

The potassium iodine pills are meant to supply enough non-radioactive iodine so as to fill the bodies need for iodine so that the pancreas will not need any more iodine and so will not absorb the radioactive form which will cause the destruction of the soft tissue and loss of the pancreas, usually by cancer.

What the body takes up (absorbs) are particles, scientifically labeled, "isotopes." There are literally hundreds of dangerously radioactive isotopes produced in atom and nuclear (hydrogen) bomb explosions and in nuclear reactors during what's called the "frisson process." None of those isotopes are found anywhere in nature. They are all man made via man made fission in bombs (weapons) and nuclear reactors.

Perhaps you have heard of radioactive cesium, another commonly mentioned radioactive isotope that is absorbed into the bodies soft tissues like the muscles of the heart and other soft tissues like the brain, where through genetic mutations, it brings on cancers.

In order to prevent the body from absorbing other highly dangerous radioactive, man made, isotopes, all of the elements that are the base for the radioactive isotopes need to be isolated, the ways and how much of each isotope is taken up by the body and a safe and effective way needs
to be discovered to block each radioactive isotope from being taken up by the body while assuring no loss of necessary nutrients like iodine.

This accomplished would indeed be man's first step on the road out of the radioactive quagmire that has been constructed around us to kill us off in only a few generations and before a plurality of humans figure all of this out and organize to do something about it. We are not alone here either. We share a symbiotic relationship with all the flora and fauna that surround us and they must survive as well.
While the pills have always been a scam to divert attention from the most harm being done by the nuclear industry with their radiation spewing bombs and the other nuclear devices like depleted uranium munitions as a method of targeted genocide and the extremely hazardous method of boiling water to produce high temperature steam in nuclear power plants like Chernobyl, Three Mile Island, Fukushima and the dozens other anti-life death traps set strategically around the world, all given to us by the wold's self appointed "elite."

Iodine pills help reduce radiation build-up in the thyroid gland (AFP Photo/Sebastien Bozon)More

Brussels (AFP) - Belgium is to provide iodine pills to its entire population of around 11 million people to protect against radioactivity in case of a nuclear accident, the health minister was quoted as saying Thursday.

The move comes as Belgium faces growing pressure from neighbouring Germany to shutter two ageing nuclear power plants near their border due to concerns over their safety.

Iodine pills, which help reduce radiation build-up in the thyroid gland, had previously only been given to people living within 20 kilometres (14 miles) of the Tihange and Doelnuclear plants.

Health Minister Maggie De Block was quoted by La Libre Belgique newspaper as telling parliament that the range had now been expanded to 100 kilometres (60 miles), effectively covering the whole country.

The health ministry did not immediately respond to AFP when asked to comment.

The head of Belgium's French-speaking Green party, Jean-Marc Nollet, backed the measures but added that "just because everyone will get these pills doesn't mean there is no longer any nuclear risk," La Libre reported.

Belgium's creaking nuclear plants have been causing safety concerns for some time after a series of problems ranging from leaks to cracks and an unsolved sabotage incident.

Last week Germany asked that the 40-year-old Tihange 2 and Doel 3 reactors be turned off "until the resolution of outstanding security issues".

The reactor pressure vessels at both sites have shown signs of metal degradation, raising fears about their safety. They were temporarily closed but resumed service last December.

Belgium's official nuclear safety agency (AFCN) rejected the German request, saying the two plants "respond to the strictest possible safety requirements."

A Retired USMC Gunnery Sergeant as a High School Teacher

Retired USMC becomes teacher
After retiring, a USMC Gunnery Sergeant took a new job as a high school teacher.

Just before the school year started, he injured his back. He was required to wear a light plaster cast around the upper part of his body.

Fortunately, the cast fit under his shirt and wasn't noticeable when he wore his suit coat.

On the first day of classes, he found that he had been assigned the toughest students in the school.

These "smart-ass punks", as they were known, had already heard that the new teacher was a retired US Marine. They were leery of him but figured he would be testing his Marine Corp. discipline on the classroom, so they decided to take command from the start.

The retired Marine, walked tall and proud into his now extra rowdy classroom. Paying no attention to the ruccas, he flung the window next to his desk wide open and sat down.

A strong, cold breeze blew in, chilling the room. It also made his tie flap so he reach over, scooped up his stapler and stapled the tie to his chest.

The classroom went dead silent and the rest of the year went quite smoothly.

What you believe together becomes the reality of the future?

Silence of the good people

What you believe together becomes the reality of the future?

Hillary might just win because of your lack of interest. But you can change the future's reality by bringing your faith together. You are gods, as Jesus said so, and it's your free will to make that choice. Don't ask God why when this happens by your lack of interest.

Do you realize that when Hollywood presents a vision through their movies, and when the people believe in the concept, it becomes the reality? That's where cell phones, electric vehicles and so many other human inventions come from.

Faith is the currency that is used to materialize things from the spiritual realm into the physical world.

Breaking News! Martial Law!

Syrian Migrants Who Attacked Woman Tell Police They’re Above The Law

Migrants who attacked woman say they’re Above The Law
It seems almost unconscionable that within a civil society our collective governments have allowed a perverse criminal element to seep within our culture, for nothing more than political expediency.

History will note that this was the moment that western civilization was once again challenged my Muslim hordes reminiscent of the 7th-10th centuries, and to what extent we finally took to drive them back, if indeed we did.

And it’s within this backdrop that we collectively find ourselves once again, as hundreds of acts of violent sexual assault and robberies were reported in Germany by mostly Middle Eastern and African males swarming through the city molesting and robbing women.

The attackers were believed to have been congregating among the nearly 1,000 Muslim refugees, who were identified as mostly men, at Cologne’s central train station, and then broke off into smaller groups to attack hundreds of women.

Justice Minister Heiko Maas asserted that he believed the attacks to be coordinated and prearranged.

“If such a horde gathers in order to commit crimes, that appears in some form to be planned. Nobody can tell me this was not coordinated or prepared.”
Some of the attackers that have been since apprehended by police have been identified themselves as Syrian refugees, and even expressed that they were above the law.

“I’m a Syrian!” one of the suspects shouted. “You have to treat me kindly! Mrs. Merkel invited me.”

There is no doubt that history is repeating itself, and if we are to survive as a “civil society” then we must once again repel the invading barbarians.

CHUCK NORRIS' TAKES ON ‘CHEMTRAILS’

Chuck Norris
Actor and activist Chuck Norris called out the “sky criminals” in his latest op-ed examining several pieces of evidence showing a global geoengineering scheme may possibly already be underway.

In a shocking World Net Daily editorial, the Walker Texas Ranger star warned governments may already be covertly subjecting populations to weather modification experiments.

Highlighting a 2003 National Center for Biotechnology Information abstract which concluded that “aerosol immunization seems a promising method of vaccination,” Norris asserted he found it doubtful the US government has not already tested the method or others on US populations.

“Over the past 13 years since the study, does anyone think it’s possible that such mass vaccinations or immunizations have occurred by air in trial locations in the U.S.?” Norris asks. “How many plane-dropping chemical cocktails have already been sprayed around the world in the name of securing public health?”

“Whatever the intent or justification, and whether or not the purpose is for mass vaccinations or some other devious plot,” writes Norris, “if you don’t believe there’s some smoke-screening in the sky trails above you, I have a London Bridge to sell you in Lake Havasu City, Arizona.”

The martial arts legend, who claims he and his wife have witnessed geoengineering over their Texas ranch, goes on to suggest there may be a possible cover-up afoot after the nixing of a study last year proving harmful human side-effects related to geoengineering.

“Interestingly,” notes Norris, “on Sept. 2, 2015, just two weeks after it was published, Dr. [J. Marvin] Herndon’s entire 16-page scientific article was suddenly and completely retracted from the journal based upon only two chemical composition questions and an overarching explanation with no further explanation than this: “The language of the paper is often not sufficiently scientifically objective for a research article.”

Norris’ search for answers follows the deaths of major celebrities who had also decried the global chemtrail phenomenon, such as country music legend Merle Haggard.

Norris also referred to lyrics from the song “Dreamer” by late pop star Prince, who had also spoke out about “chemtrails” during a PBS appearance in 2009.

“…Prince, who just passed away this past week, sang in his song, ‘Dreamer’: ‘While the helicopter circles us, this theory’s getting’ deep, Think they’re spraying chemicals over the city while we sleep? From now on I’m staying’ awake, you can call me a dreamer too, wake up, wake up.'”

THE GUN STORY - WHY THE SECOND AMENDMENT

You’re sound asleep when you hear a thump outside your bedroom door. Half-awake, and nearly paralyzed with fear, you hear muffled whispers. At least two people have broken into your house and are moving your way.

With your heart poundng, you reach down beside your bed and pick up your shotgun. You rack a shell into the chamber, then inch toward the door and open it. In the darkness, you make out two shadows.. One holds something that looks like a crowbar When the intruder brandishes it as if to strike, you raise the shotgun and fire.

The blast knocks both thugs to the floor. One writhes and screams while the second man crawls to the front door and lurches outside. As you pick up the telephone to call police, you know you're in trouble.

In your country, most guns were outlawed years before, and the few that are privately owned are so stringently regulated as to make them useless.

Yours was never registered. Police arrive and inform you that the second burglar has died They arrest you for First Degree Murder and Illegal Possession of a Firearm.

When you talk to your attorney, he tells you not to worry: authorities will probably plea the case down to manslaughter. "What kind of sentence will I get?" you ask.

"Only ten-to-twelve years,” he replies, as if that's nothing. "Behave yourself, and you'll be out in seven."

The next day, the shooting is the lead story in the local newspaper. Somehow, you're portrayed as an eccentric vigilante while the two men you shot are represented as choirboys. Their friends and relatives can't find an unkind word to say about them. Buried deep down in the article, authorities acknowledge that both "victims" have been arrested numerous times.

But the next day's headline says it all: "Lovable Rogue Son Didn't Deserve to Die."

The thieves have been transformed from career criminals into Robin Hood-type pranksters. As the days wear on, the story takes wings.

The national media picks it up, then the international media. The surviving burglar has become a folk hero. Your attorney says the thief is preparing to sue you, and he'll probably win.

The media publishes reports that your home has been burglarized several times in the past and that you've been critical of local police for their lack of effort in apprehending the suspects. After the last break-in, you told your neighbor that you would be prepared next time. The District Attorney uses this to allege that you were lying in wait for the burglars. A few months later, you go to trial.

The charges haven't been reduced, as your lawyer had so confidently predicted. When you take the stand, your anger at the injustice of it all works against you.

Prosecutors paint a picture of you as a mean, vengeful man. It doesn't take long for the jury to convict you of all charges.

The judge sentences you to life in prison.

This case really happened.

On August 22, 1999, Tony Martin of Emneth, Norfolk , England , killed one burglar and wounded a second. In April, 2000, he was convicted and is now serving a life term. How did it become a crime to defend one's own life in the once great British Empire ?

It started with the Pistols Act of 1903. This seemingly reasonable law forbade selling pistols to minors or felons and established that handgun sales were to be made only to those who had a license. The Firearms Act of 1920 expanded licensing to include not only handguns but all firearms except shotguns. Later laws passed in 1953 and 1967 outlawed the carrying of any weapon by private citizens and mandated the registration of all shotguns.

Momentum for total handgun confiscation began in earnest after the Hungerford mass shooting in 1987. Michael Ryan, a mentally disturbed man with a Kalashnikov rifle, walked down the streets shooting everyone he saw.

When the smoke cleared, 17 people were dead. The British public, already de-sensitized by eighty years of "gun control", demanded even tougher restrictions. (The seizure of all privately owned handguns was the objective even though Ryan used a rifle) Nine years later, at Dunblane , Scotland , Thomas Hamilton used a semi-automatic weapon to murder 16 children and a teacher at a public school.

For many years, the media had portrayed all gun owners as mentally unstable or worse, criminals. Now the press had a real kook with which to beat up law-abiding gun owners. Day after day, week after week, the media gave up all pretense of objectivity and demanded a total ban on all handguns. The Dunblane Inquiry, a few months later, sealed the fate of the few sidearms still owned by private citizens.

During the years in which the British government incrementally took away most gun rights, the notion that a citizen had the right to armed self-defense came to be seen as vigilantism. Authorities refused to grant gun licenses to people who were threatened, claiming that self-defense was no longer considered a reason to own a gun. Citizens who shot burglars or robbers or rapists were charged while the real criminals were released.

Indeed, after the Martin shooting, a police spokesman was quoted as saying, "We cannot have people take the law into their own hands.” All of Martin's neighbors had been robbed numerous times, and several elderly people were severely injured in beatings by young thugs who had no fear of the consequences. Martin himself, a collector of antiques, had seen most of his collection trashed or stolen by burglars.

When the Dunblane Inquiry ended, citizens who owned handguns were given three months to turn them over to local authorities. Being good British subjects, most people obeyed the law. The few who didn't were visited by police and threatened with ten-year prison sentences if they didn't comply.

Police later bragged that they'd taken nearly 200,000 handguns from private citizens. How did the authorities know who had handguns? The guns had been registered and licensed. Kind of like cars. Sound familiar?

WAKE UP AMERICA; THIS IS WHY OUR FOUNDING FATHERS PUT THE SECOND AMENDMENT IN OUR CONSTITUTION

"...It does not require a majority to prevail, but rather an irate, tireless minority keen to set brush fires in people's minds...”

~ Samuel Adams ~

“I believe there are more instances of the abridgment of the freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachment by those in power than by violent and sudden usurpation."

~ James Madison ~

Pinocchio, Snow White and Superman are out for a stroll one day.

As they walk, they come across a sign:

"Beauty contest for the most beautiful woman in the world."

"I'm entering," said Snow White.

After half an hour she comes out and they ask her, "Well, how did you do?"

"First Place," said Snow White.

They continue walking and they see a sign: "Contest for the strongest man in the world."

"That's for me," says Superman.

Patrick Henry Hughes - Inspirational Story

Patrick Henry Hughes
Patrick Henry Hughes and his father share an incredible story of tragedy to triumph and have been featured on ESPN, Oprah, The Ellen Show, Extreme Make Over Home Edition, The Today Show, all the major news networks, Million Dollar Round Table, The Grand Ole Opry, People Magazine, Sports Illustrated, and many, many others. Patrick Henry is a remarkable young man who was born without eyes and without the ability to fully straighten his arms and legs, making him unable to walk. Additionally, two steel rods were surgically attached to Patrick's spine to correct scoliosis.

In the face of incredible odds from birth, Patrick has overcome these physical issues to excel as a musician, student, performer and public speaker. Patrick started playing the piano at the age of only nine months and also plays the trumpet and sings. He even participated in the University of Louisville Marching Band for five seasons with help from his father, Patrick John Hughes, who tirelessly maneuvered Patrick’s wheelchair through the formations during practices and games with the other 220+ members of the Cardinal Marching Band. Along with marching band, Patrick's dad spent his days attending classes on campus assisting his son while working the overnight shift five nights a week for a major package shipping company so that Patrick Henry could achieve his greatest potential. Patrick Henry was usually a straight 'A' student, having received only 3 'B's' during his entire primary/secondary educational experience and graduated from the Univ.of Louisville magna cum laude in 2010. Patrick was a Spanish language major and speaks Spanish fluently.

Patrick and his dad have made appearances all across the United States and have even shared their story in Asia, Canada, South America, Central America and Europe. Their first book, I AM POTENTIAL, is published and available around the country and the world in different languages. The book has also been turned into a feature length film called I Am Potential. Patrick has recorded 2 CD's.

Prince Wrote This Song With Donald Trump

Prince with Donald Trump
Prince wrote a song a few years ago about the GOP front-runner Donald Trump before he even declared to run for President and the song is awesome!

Prince was a great songwriter and the lyrics for the period he wrote this for expressed to many of you just how big Trump was and currently is.

The musical group called The Time, which was formed under Prince, recorded the song. They haven’t sung together in years which leads me to believe this was done in the late 80s, early 90s, my era.

Honey, baby, you truly know it. (You truly know it.)
You look good. Tryin’ your best to show it.
If I were you, I would. True love and affection.
These are nice (so nice), but when a money man walks in the room, girl,
You look more than twice.
You look once (you look twice). Can I rap to you, sugar, tonight?

(chorus)
Donald Trump (black version), maybe that’s what you need.
A man that fulfills your every wish, your every dream.
Donald Trump (black version), come on take a chance.
A 1990s love affair, the real romance.

Here’s the Recorded Song:

The world suffers
Number 8

Life is sexually transmitted.

Simple Blisters Prevention

Is there anything worse than getting a blister on the 25th mile?

OK, maybe not everyone is an ultra marathoner. But doctors who got sick and tired of treating runners' blisters say they have a cheap and easy solution for them — and for those of us stupid enough to wear new shoes to work without socks, here is the simple solution: paper tape.

It's the stuff sold in drugstores to hold on gauze, and it's as thin and flimsy as the name implies.

Paper tape
This is what you need for blisters. Maskot / Getty Images

It turns out this thin, easy-to-tear tape works better to prevent blisters than powders, antiperspirants, lubricants, Band-Aids or adhesive pads, said Dr. Grant Lipman, an emergency medicine physician at Stanford Health Care in California.

"IT'S KIND OF A RIDICULOUSLY CHEAP, EASY METHOD OF BLISTER PREVENTION."

Lipman helps endurance athletes who run 25 to 50 miles a day in all sorts of climates, from the high desert of Chile to Antarctica.

They are, unsurprisingly, plagued by blisters.

"What I kept hearing was, 'Doctor, I'd be doing so well, if only for my feet,'" Lipman said in a statement.

"Their feet were getting decimated."

But he had heard rumors that paper tape helped. So he and colleagues tested the idea using 128 runners participating in the 155-mile, seven-day RacingThePlanet ultramarathon event that crosses terrain from Jordan's rock-strewn wastes to the Gobi Desert.

Runners
They had trained medical technicians put paper tape on just one of each runner's feet.

No blisters formed on the feet of 98 of the runners where the tape had been applied, they reported in the Clinical Journal of Sport Medicine. But 81 runners did get blisters in untaped areas.

"It's kind of a ridiculously cheap, easy method of blister prevention," Lipman said. "You can get it anywhere. A little roll costs about 69 cents, and that should last a year or two."

The stuff is thin enough so that it doesn't interfere with the shoe's fit and it's comfortable, he added.

Job Application

Long line applicants
A retired man went into the Job Center in Downtown, Denver and saw a card advertising for a "Gynecologist's Assistant."

Interested, he went in and asked the clerk for details.

The clerk pulled up the file and read; "The job entails getting the ladies ready for the gynecologist...

"You have to help the women out of their underwear, lay them down and carefully wash their private regions, then apply shaving foam and gently shave off the hair, then rub in some soothing oils so they'll be ready for the gynecologist's examination...

"The annual salary is $65,000, and you'll have to go to Billings, Montana."

"Good grief", the man said, "Is that where the job is?"

"No sir . . . that's where the end of the line is right now."

A Maintenance Problem

A hotel guest called the front desk, and the clerk answered, "May I help you?"

The guest said, "Yes, I'm in room 858. You need to send someone to the room right away. I'm having an argument with my wife and she says she's going to jump out the window."

The desk clerk said, "I'm sorry, Sir, but that's really a personal problem."

The guest replied, "Listen, Buddy, the window won't open, and that's a maintenance problem."

Getting into Heaven

Irish Children's Sunday school test.

A Dublin Sunday school class was tested to see if they understood the concept of getting to heaven. Their teacher asked them, "If I sold my house and my car, had a big garage sale and gave all the money to the church, would that get me into heaven?”

“NO!" the children answered.

"If I cleaned the church every day, mowed the lawn, and kept everything tidy, would that get me into heaven?”

Again, the unanimous answer was “NO!”

"If I gave sweets to all the children, and loved my husband, would that get me into heaven?”

Again, they all shouted out “NO!”

Their teacher was just bursting with pride for them as she continued, "Then how can I get into heaven?”

A little boy shouted out: "YUV GOTTA BE FOOKN’ DEAD!”

Radioactive Wild Boars Rampaging Fukushima Nuclear Site

Radioactive boars are running wild and breeding uncontrollably in the northern region ofJapan contaminated by the Fukushima nuclear disaster.

The animals have been devastating local agriculture and eating toxic, nuclear-contaminated food from around the accident site.

Mass graves and incinerators have been unable to cope with the quantity of boar corpses, shot by local hunters.

However, boars remained in the area, unchecked by humans. Their precise number is unknown, but since 2014, the number of boars hunted has increased from 3,000 to 13,000, The Times reported.A quarantine zone near the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant where a 2011 meltdown leaked radioactive material into the surrounding countryside has been uninhabited by humans since the disaster.

“Sooner or later, we’re going to have to ask local people to give us their land to use,” said Tsuneo Saito, a local hunter. “The city doesn’t own land which isn’t occupied by houses.”

In desperation, the authorities are resorting to using incinerators to get rid of the corpses. But it has been difficult to find the workers to chop up the remains into pieces small enough to feed into the furnaces because this leaves the volunteers heavily contaminated with radiation.

In the city of Soma, a purpose-built incinerator has been developed, complete with filters to absorb some of the radioactive material released by its cremations. However, even this £1million operation can only dispose of three boars a day.

The animals were considered a local delicacy, but the nuclear contaminated boars are unfit for human consumption. Tests have shown the contaminated area remains dangerous, with levels of radiation 300,000 times the safe limit for humans.

The radiation levels are expected to remain toxic for at least another 300 million years.

Despite evidence of mutations to local plant and insect life, there has been nothing yet recognised suggesting the boars suffer any discoverable ill effects from the radiation. Authorities still manage to ignore all indicators of damage due to radiation exposure.

Exposure to radiation can take years for damage to show, and years after being exposed or for cancers to develop.

The Power Of Possibility

Owning The Oceans

The United Nations has launched a far-reaching initiative that could give U.N.-sponsored authorities sway over the biological resources of the high seas—all the waters that lie outside national territories and economic zones.

The potential shift in power involves multi-trillion-dollar issues, such as whether large areas—conceivably, as much as 30 percent-- of the world’s international waters should be designated as no-go areas to protect biological diversity; whether and how to require elaborate “environmental impact assessments” for future ocean development projects; and how to divide up the economic benefits from the future development of “marine genetic resources.”

Eden Charles, a diplomat from Trinidad and Tobago who is serving as the chairman for a U.N. preparatory committee that began the discussions this week underlined to Fox News that the talks are at a “very, very preliminary stage.”

Overall, the hoped-for treaty will cover “two-thirds of the oceans, almost half the planet,” says Lisa Speer, a senior official of the National Resources Defense Council (NRDC), which is in turn a lead member of a squadron of 33 environmentalist groups banded together as the High Seas Alliance to lobby for protectionist measures during the talks.

The rationale behind the discussions: easing the rising pressure on the world’s undersea biodiversity wrought by over-fishing, pollution, the drainage of nutrients and other substances from surrounding lands, disturbance of underwater seabeds, and fears of even greater threats from underwater industrial technology, including underwater exploration for hydrocarbons.

CLICK HERE FOR THE U.N. RESOLUTION MANDATING THE TREATY

In U.N. terms, the discussions are proceeding at something like flank speed—that is, a lot slower than a melting iceberg bobbing in the north Atlantic. They began with the initial meeting on March 28 of the preparatory committee-- “prep-com” in U.N.-speak--of nations to discuss preliminary ideas until Friday, April 8. Another two-week prep-com session will take place in August, and two more next year.

These are expected to result by the end of 2017 in draft language for a planned oceans treaty that could then be chewed over for another year or two in broader international sessions.

The agreement that ensues from those discussions, however, is seen by some involved in its hoped-for creation as the salt-water equivalent of the Paris Agreement on climate change, which will be formally signed at an April 22 ceremony in New York—a global, permanent and legally-binding deal for the management of Earth’s last frontier, which will spawn further layers of regulation in years to come.

“The climate negotiations showed the possibilities for us to come together,” Speer told Fox News.

Like the climate treaty, the intended oceans treaty envisages transfers of marine technology and investment to developing nations as part of the deal , along with some still far-from-specified portion of the wealth derived from marine biological discoveries, including genetic breakthroughs.

“One of the things we are looking at is how marine genetic resources will be conserved, sustainably used, and how the dividends will be shared,” says Speer.

One of the biggest backers of the preliminary talks is the Obama Administration. Even though the U.S. has never ratified the 1982 U.N. Law of the Sea Convention—the new talks are aimed at creating an “implementing agreement” under the Law of the Sea umbrella—the Administration is deeply involved in the negotiations, as are some of the world’s most powerful environmental organizations.

The U.S. also has a legal precedent for its involvement: its ratification in 1996 of another “implementing agreement” under the Law of the Sea Convention that orchestrated the activities of a variety of regional fisheries management organizations across international waters, allowed for international enforcement, and a variety of other measures.

Ocean bio-preservation is also one of the 17 nebulous Sustainable Development Goalsendorsed by all the world’s governments, including the U.S. last September.

“The United States strongly supports conservation and sustainable use of the ocean and its resources, both within and beyond national jurisdiction,” a State Department official told Fox News.

That included “increased cooperation and coordination among states, international bodies, and relevant stakeholders to achieve better conservation and management of high seas resources,” not to mention “better management and planning for multiple uses and activities where they occur in areas beyond national jurisdiction.”

The Administration has already anted up domestically on some of the big-ticket possibilities under discussion, with, among other things, its huge expansion by executive order in September 2014 of the Remote Pacific Islands National Marine Monument in the central Pacific Ocean into a half-million-square-mile oceans preserve.

U.S. environmental groups are lobbying now for additional marine monument areas off the coast of New England, site of some of the U.S.’s most important Atlantic fisheries.

Such preserves—known as marine protected areas or MPAs, in Law of the Sea jargon—are a major focus of attention for the U.S.-based Pew Charitable Trusts, which has been lobbying governments around the world for years to create them.

So are environmental impact assessments, or EIAs, which are a focus for the High Seas Alliance as well—a bid to create not only environmental protection standards but also public review processes that will give non-governmental environmentalists a greater voice in what would pass muster as acceptable future ocean resources development.

Pew is the organization lobbying most loudly for a 30 percent set-aside of the high seas for preservation purposes—“although not completely no-take, no-use areas,” according to Elizabeth Wilson, director of the non-profit organization’s international ocean policy program, who attended several days of the New York meeting.

Pew has also been funding pilot projects for satellite observation of protected zones as an efficient means of supporting law enforcement in the vast reaches of ocean that would be involved, as well as financing research that offers backing for the preserve concept.

As the first prepcom session neared its end, Wilson said the diplomatic talks “had gotten a lot further into the details than we expected it to do at this stage,” and that “people were feeling pretty comfortable” with the concepts involved in the mammoth ocean discussions.

Comfort with concepts, and agreement on terms, however, are still two greatly different things.

Participants in the meeting were divided over such questions as whether a new accord would create a new international oceans authority to administer the exploitation of the world’s undersea biological resources, or whether ways could be found to expand existing authorities such as the regional fisheries management organizations and the International Seabed Authority, a U.N.-sponsored creation that is currently supposed to regulate undersea mining.

One of the “most animated” areas of discussion, prep-com chairman Charles told Fox News, was how the rewards of the world’s undersea bio-heritage could be shared. “We do not yet have a legal code for their exploitation,” he declared.

Some countries were arguing that all such resources be considered the “common heritage of mankind,” a code term for a socialist-leaning vision of shared international ownership.

Other countries were emphasizing traditional “freedom of the seas,” which apparently would leave more room for private initiative.

In the case of MPAs, he said, “some member states say we first need to take stock to determine if the need for an MPA is there,” while others “say not in all circumstances.” There is also conceptual disagreement on whether such protections always need to be permanent, he said.

According to some scientific experts, there is also reason to question whether the undersea set-aside approach was really going to be all that effective in dealing with some of the world’s most pressing ocean problems, such as over-fishing.

Ray Hilborn, an internationally known fisheries expert at the University of Washington in Seattle, is one of the skeptics. Co-author of a recent study that is the groundbreaking effort to estimate the historical extent of global fish stocks, he told Fox News that while over-fishing is a serious issue, “in the a big picture, we are not close to calamity at all.”

The study he co-authored shows that “about 20 percent of the globe’s fish stocks are over-fished,” he said, and stocks of many of the major species that are commercially exploited “are in better shape than smaller fish stocks, essentially because they are better managed.”

Many of the worst problems are in Pacific fisheries exploited by Asia, where the bigger issue is getting countries such as China and Korea to honor existing fisheries management organizations.

While reforms of fisheries management are needed, the study says, “recovery can happen quickly, with the median fishery taking under 10 years to reach recovery targets.”

Closed-off ocean areas, Hilborn says, “are the crudest possible tool for fishing management. All it does is move boats somewhere else.”

Fifth Anniversary of the Fukushima Nuclear Disaster

It’s the fifth anniversary of the Fukushima nuclear disaster; the damaged power plant is still leaking 150 tons of water into the ocean every single day, and radiation continues to wash up on the far shores of the Pacific Ocean.

So, is nuclear power worth the risk of devastating accidents like this? This Planet’s “Wasted: the 100,000 Year Hangover” puts that question in context:

Today, the situation in Fukushima is still grim:

“... some 100,000 people remain displaced, decontamination is far from complete, cleanup costs ballooned to $118 billion, the amount of radioactive waste and water builds with no solution for disposal and health studies show an alarming spike in thyroid cancer among Fukushima’s children.”

Wisconsin Gazette

The Fukushima disaster has created plenty of fallout for the nuclear power industry too. Reuters reports that TEPCO, the owner of the Fukushima plant, can’t even survey the damage properly because the intense radiation keeps disabling the robots they send into the reactor core.

Fukushima is the world’s third spectacular meltdown. There was Three Mile Island in Pennsylvania in 1979, and Chernobyl in Ukraine (then part of the USSR) in 1986. As highlighted in This Planet’s blog post both are now entombed in concrete, and both remain deadly. Nonetheless, nuclear capacity has continued to grow worldwide: today there are 442 nuclear power reactors operating in 31 countries.

Then there’s Fukushima’s economic fallout, estimated at over $250 billion. Around 160,000 residents of Japan’s Fukushima Prefecture, ground zero of the earthquake-induced tsunami, have been evicted from the exclusion zone.

But some local farmers near the plant are making do. Although their land is too radioactive to grow crops, they are experimenting with growing ornamental plants using polyester “soil” in their greenhouses.

Meanwhile in Wisconsin, the commissioning of new nuclear generating plants is a political hot-potato. A Wisconsin law mandates that any new nuclear plant construction must “have a permanent storage site for spent nuclear fuel,” a provision that has effectively stopped new construction in its tracks. The Wisconsin Legislature has sent Republican Gov. Scott Walker a bill that would repeal that measure. Environmentalists are opposed, but Walker is likely to sign - so expect more fallout.

No Care Giver Again

I had no care giver last night again.  This makes about a half dozen times in two weeks.  Each time this happens, I am either forced to go to the street to find some homeless people to help me into bed or if I don't find anybody I just end up sitting up all night in my powerchair.

Roland (my Micronesian neighbor's 30ish son, who takes care of both mom and dad, and who also has his full time job to attend to), who I am very fortunate to have as a night time care giver can't get here until after midnight.

This is not okay, either way.

The main problem I see is that Kaiser QUEST only pays for a quarter hour for someone like Roland (my neighbor's 30ish year old son) to help me into bed.  No standard care giver or service will show up for less than a minimum of a full hour at their regular rate and I have not even been able to fnd one of those.  It seems no one is willing to work as a care giver for $2.00 an hour and certainly not if they have to travel here to do it.

The minimum pay should be at the hourly rate for at least an hour or $10.00.  This could get someone to show up for $70.00 a week.

I don't want to use the hours I have for my care giver during the day on a person to put me into bed at night because I really need my care giver during the day time.  Sitting up all night causes my legs to swell horribly.  If I am in my bed, I can elevate my legs which prevents the swelling.

Attempting to get myself into bed without help, risks falling each time.  I must also take money out of my own pocket to pay the homeless and none of them will get me into bed for less than $10.00 either.  This also forces me to keep cash on hand to pay them as they want instant payment
and not be forced to wait a month or two to get their money.

These are the simple realities I have to deal with, every day.

Aloha,
Dennis H. Clarke

2 PESTICIDES THREATEN 97%

We know that pesticides are harming the animals – from creatures who live in the oceans, to larger animals living on farms, in jungles, on prairies, and even flying above our heads. But even more worrisome, they seem to be a threat to endangered species roaming the earth.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has just released an analysis pinpointing the collective impact that just 3 pesticides have on a surprising 97% of all the animals on endangered and threatened species lists nationwide.

These 3 common pesticides—chlorpyrifos, diazinon, and malathion—are causing unwanted damage to the natural world.

1. Chlorpyrifos

Chlorpyrifos is manufactured primarily by Dow Agro Sciences LLC, Cheminova, Makhteshim-Agan, Garda, and Platte Chemical. It is an organophosphate pesticide that is harmful to animals and the environment. It is said to be a severe risk to 97% of America’s most threatened flora and fauna.

Chlorpyrifos is used in agriculture for feed and food crops and in cattle ear tags. This type of pesticide is also used on golf courses, and to control fire ants and mosquitoes for ‘public health.’ Products containing chlorpyrifos are also used to treat wood fences, and utility poles, as well as to exterminate termites, mosquitoes and roundworms.”

It works by blocking an enzyme which controls messages that travel between nerve cells. When the enzyme is blocked, the nervous system can’t send normal signals. The problem is that this is also how it can harm innocent animals, including those on the endangered species list.

2. Diazinon

Diazinon pesticide has been found it in at least 25 of the 1699 ‘National Priorities List’ cleanup sites that have been over-dosed with the chemical. Usually when this substance is in the environment at even moderate levels, humans are evacuated. You can imagine how animals might fare when exposed to this pesticide. It also lingers in soil, air, and water for decades.

An organophosphorus insecticide, Diazinon is used to control pest insects in soil, on ornamental plants, and on fruit and vegetable field crops. It’s sold under common trade names including Alfatox, Basudin, AG 500, Dazzel, Gardentox, and Knoxout. The EPAbanned this insecticide in 2005, but it is still hurting endangered animals.

Diazinon threatens 79% of endangered species.

3. Malathion

Also an organophosphate, Malathion targets insects by causing their nervous system to break down. Itdirectly affects how the liver and kidneys work in both animals and humans.

As the Guardian reports:

“Malathion, an insecticide registered for use in the US since 1956, is likely to cause harm to 97% of the 1,782 mammals, birds, fish, reptiles and plants listed under the Endangered Species Act. Malathion is commonly used to treat fruit, vegetables and plants for pests, as well as on pets to remove ticks.”

The report reveals that malathion and chlorpyrifos harms an astounding 97% of the 1,782 animals and plants protected under the Endangered Species Act. Diazinon harms 79%. The report does not mention glyphosate (the main ingredient in Monsanto’s best-selling herbicide Roundup).

Lori Ann Burd, Environmental Health Director at the Center for Biological Diversity, said in a statement:

“For the first time in history, we finally have data showing just how catastrophically bad these pesticides are for endangered species—from birds and frogs to fish and plants. These dangerous pesticides have been used without proper analysis for decades, and now’s the time to take this new information and create common-sense measures to protect plants, animals and people from these chemicals.”

The EPA has allowed more than 16,000 chemicals to be registered for use without proper scientific research to determine their effects on the world around us, and our own health. The fact that the EPA has released this analysis is a step in the right direction.

Indeed, 800 million pounds of pesticides are going to cause some hefty damage. Many pesticides are said to evaporate in days, but some linger in the soil, air, and water for years, or even decades, and we still don’t know the synergistic effect of all these chemicals when used together. What is known for sure is that the more pesticides are used, the more difficult it is for the environment to ‘detox.’ The same goes for the animals and us.

Hopefully, armed with this new information provided by the EPA, we can do something before it is too late.
